Global Logistics Update: Suez, Gulf Routes & Freight Costs

TradeSpan Global | 8 November 2026

A shorter sailing looks good on paper. But if the vessel changes, the cargo misses a connection, or a new surcharge applies, the delivery plan can change with it. This week’s carrier updates give shippers three reasons to check the details before committing a date or a cost to their customer.

1. India–Europe shipping: One Gemini service returns to Suez

What we’d check:

The vessel and voyage, whether space is confirmed, and how much time remains between port arrival and the required delivery date. If you’re shipping equipment for an installation, we’d compare the planned sailing with a backup and agree the last date you can switch without missing the site appointment.

2. Gulf logistics: A landbridge can keep cargo moving, but it changes the handoffs

In its 6 November operational update, Maersk described expanded sea-and-road options for parts of the Gulf, including Jebel Ali via landbridge. Availability depends on the route and shipment.

What we’d check:

Who handles each leg, which broker owns each customs handoff, whether any transit documents need to change, and what your insurer confirms in writing for the revised route. We’d also compare the total cost and delivery window against the original plan before recommending a switch.

3. Asia–Mediterranean freight: Check which date triggers the surcharge

Maersk announced a peak season surcharge for eligible Far East Asia–Mediterranean shipments, effective from the 23 November price calculation date. The published amounts are USD 750 for a 20-foot container and USD 1,500 for a 40- or 45-foot container. This is a Maersk announcement for the stated trade scope.

What we’d check:

Whether the surcharge applies to your booking, which date the carrier uses to calculate the price, and what’s included in each forwarder’s quote. That gives you a fair comparison before approving the booking or passing the cost on to your customer.

How TradeSpan Global can help

We start with your cargo, route, delivery deadline and current booking. Then we check the carrier’s update against your shipment, compare workable options, and flag any customs, documentation or cost changes. If you already have a forwarder and broker, we can coordinate with them so everyone knows who owns the next action and when to escalate.
